How to run one shopping list for a whole household
Invite your household to Palato and you share one recipe library, one meal plan and one shopping list. Items can come straight from planned meals, be checked off as you shop, and update for everyone, which removes the photographed handwritten list from your life.
What Palato does
- Plan meals in a weekly calendar and create shopping-list items from the plan.
- Organize saved recipes in custom lists and search the saved collection.
- Palato is available for iPhone and Android.
In detail
The photographed list problem
Most households run their shopping through a photo of a piece of paper, a chat message that scrolls away, or a list on one person's phone. All three fail the same way: the person in the shop cannot see what somebody added five minutes ago, and nobody can see what has already been bought.
The result is the familiar one. Three jars of the same thing and no eggs.
One list, generated from the plan
In Palato, shopping list items can be added manually or from planned meals, checked off, combined where supported, and shared. Generating the list from the week's plan is what keeps the shopping and the cooking in agreement.
Combining matters more than it sounds. Four recipes that each need onions produce one line, not four.
What a household actually shares
Household management supports invitations, shared planning, shared shopping lists and membership controls. A household shares a recipe library, meal plans and shopping lists, so a recipe one person imported is available to whoever is cooking.
Membership controls exist because households change. Sharing is something you grant and can withdraw, not a permanent state.
In the shop, without signal
Account data is synchronised when online, and supported offline changes are queued for synchronisation after connectivity returns. Checking items off in a shop with no reception still works, and the list catches up afterwards.
Palato is available for iPhone and Android, so a household does not have to agree on a phone before it can agree on dinner.
